Biography of Stephen Port

Stephen Port was born on February 22, 1975, in Southend-on-Sea, a town in Essex, England. He grew up in a middle-class family and was described as a loner during his childhood. Port attended the University of Westminster, where he studied fashion and design, and later worked as a chef in various restaurants and hotels.

In 2012, Port began using dating apps such as Grindr and Fitlads to meet young men for sex. He would drug his victims with GHB, a sedative commonly used in the gay club scene, and sexually assault them while they were unconscious. Over the course of 15 months between 2014 and 2015, Port murdered four men: Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth, and Jack Taylor.

The first victim, Anthony Walgate, was found dead on June 19, 2014, outside Port’s flat in Barking, east London. Port had invited Walgate to his flat for sex, drugged him with GHB, and then left him outside to die. Port then used fake identities to contact the families of the other three victims, claiming to be a witness to their deaths and implicating other people in the murders.

The murders were initially treated as unconnected drug overdoses, and the police were criticized for failing to link them sooner. However, in September 2015, the police launched a full investigation after the body of Jack Taylor was found near Port’s flat. Port was arrested in October 2015 and charged with the murders of all four men.

In November 2016, Port was found guilty of all charges against him, including four counts of murder, four counts of administering a substance with intent to stupefy or overpower to allow sexual activity, seven counts of rape, and ten counts of perverting the course of justice. He was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

The case raised concerns about the police response to reports of missing young men and the use of dating apps by serial killers. The families of the victims have criticized the police for failing to take their concerns seriously and for not linking the murders sooner. The case also led to calls for better education and awareness about the dangers of drugs such as GHB, which are commonly used in the gay club scene.

Stephen Port has a sister called Sharon Port.
