She continued to study and earned the qualifications required to pilot Boeing 737 and Boeing 747-8 aircraft in the following years. The year 1984 was the time that Clarke made history as the first female pilot for Bahamasair and was appointed an officer in the First Class of the airline. While often faced with discrimination Clark persevered until 1988 when, after a year of training she was employed to work for United Parcel Service (UPS) as an engineer for flights. The three members of her crew operated routes that ran from Louisville, Kentucky to Anchorage, Alaska, as well as Australia in Australia and Cologne, Germany. In the year 1990, Washington was promoted to First Officer at UPS.
