Mitch Marner Parents: Meet Paul and Bonnie Marner
Mitch Marner Parents: Meet Paul and Bonnie Marner – Mitch Marner went to Hill Academy, a private athletic-focused school in Vaughan. He’d later attend Blyth Academy.
At Blyth, Marner collaborated with Knights teammates Christian Dvorak and Owen MacDonald to open MOD Feast, an acronym for each creator’s name (Marner, Owen, and Dvorak).
The group served “bagels and stuff,” with pizza being served on Fridays. Marner grew up a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who eventually drafted him. Due to the presence of his two favorite players, Patrick Kane and Sidney Crosby, he was also a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Marner’s favorite film is Step Brothers, his favorite television show is The Big Bang Theory, and his favorite video games are Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty.
Marner became a co-owner of OverActive Media, a Toronto-based esports company with Call of Duty and Overwatch teams, in July 2020.
Marner was the victim of a carjacking in May 2022, in which his Range Rover was stolen but he was unharmed.
Marner won a gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2014, the year he made his international debut for Canada. He shared the tournament scoring lead with Mathew Barzal for Canada.
At the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Marner and Dylan Strome led Canada in scoring with a combined four goals and two assists in five games.
Before being defeated by the hosts Finland, Canada advanced to the quarterfinals. Marner tied the score twice in the contest, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the eventual gold medal winners.
Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs were drawn in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning.
Prior to the start of the series, Marner hadn’t scored in eighteen playoff games, and after struggling against the Blue Jackets and the Canadiens, there was a lot of speculation about how he would fare against the Lightning.
Marner contributed to a 5-0 victory for the Leafs in Game 1 of their series against the Lightning by scoring his first playoff goal since April 11, 2019. He added two assists, making his totals from the previous two playoff series in a single game almost identical.
