Michel Côté Wife: Meet Véronique Le Flaguais – Michel Côté OC MSC (June 25, 1950 – May 29, 2023) was a highly acclaimed Canadian actor known for his remarkable performances in both film and theater. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the entertainment industry, leaving a lasting impact on Canadian cinema and stage productions.
Côté’s journey in the world of acting began when he started teaching introductory acting and improvisation at the Option The atre in Ste. Therese until 1977. Inspired by his passion for theater, he co-founded Vogagements, a small theater company.
It was in 1979 that Michel Côté’s career took a significant turn when he joined the cast of the play “Broue” at a local theater. Originally planned for a one-month run, “Broue” became a massive success, touring numerous cities across Canada. Côté’s commitment to the play was unwavering, as he continued to deliver captivating performances in over 2,000 presentations until as late as 2008.
Côté’s talent also shone on the silver screen. He portrayed the lead character in the film “Cruising Bar” and earned a Genie Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in 1990. Another notable role came in the film “C.R.A.Z.Y.,” where Côté delivered a powerful performance, earning him a Genie Award win in the same category in 2005. In 2008, he reprised his beloved characters from “Cruising Bar” in the sequel “Cruising Bar 2,” which garnered him a Jutra Award nomination for Best Actor.
Continuing his successful film career, Côté took on various roles in notable movies. In 2009, he played a lead role in the film “De père en flic,” which achieved significant box office success in Quebec, grossing $10.5 million. The following year, he portrayed pilot Robert Piché in “Piché: The Landing of a Man” and starred as Roger Gendron in “A Sense of Humour” in 2011.
In addition to his acting achievements, Côté co-founded the theater company “Broue” alongside Marc Messier and Marcel Gauthier in 1979. The company’s productions became immensely popular, further showcasing Côté’s versatility and talent on stage.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the arts, Michel Côté was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2022, receiving the rank of Officer. This prestigious honor exemplifies his significant impact on Canadian culture and his enduring legacy as a distinguished actor.
