Mel Gibson Awards And Honors: Born on January 3, 1956, Mel Gibson, officially known as Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson is an American actor and film director.

He developed a passion for acting and production at a younger age and hence studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art.

As a student, Gibson and Judy Davis played the lead in Romeo and Juliet. He also played Queen Titania in an experimental production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Gibson has been consistent throughout his career rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after actors and producers.

Throughout his career, he has produced, directed, and starred in several films including; Edge of Darkness, The Beaver, Braveheart, and Hacksaw Ridge, among others.

His roles in the Mad Max series of films, Peter Weir’s Gallipoli, and the Lethal Weapon series of films earned him the label of “Action Hero”

Gibson is best known for directing and producing the film, The Passion of the Christ, a biblical drama that was both financially successful and highly controversial.

He further received critical notice for his directorial work of the action-adventure film Apocalypto which is set in Mesoamerica during the early 16th century

Gibson is the founder of Icon Entertainment, a production company, which has been referred to as “an alternative to the studio system”

He’s a recipient of several awards including; Best Actor Award from the Australian Film Institute, Golden Globe Award for Best Director, the Academy Award for Best Director, and the Academy Award for Best Picture.
