Mahtob Maryam Mahmoody (Persian pronunciation: mhtb mHmwd, September 4, 1979) is an American author. She wrote the autobiographical memoir My Name is Mahtob. This tells the story of her family’s experience when her mother Betty Mahmoody and her father, Sayyed Bozorg Mahmoody were held captive in Iran for 18 months. Her mother’s version of their story was published in Not Without My Daughter in 1987. It was later adapted into the 1991 feature film with Mahtob played by Sheila Rosenthal, and her parents by Alfred Molina.

Although their stay was supposed to have been for two weeks, Mahtob and Betty were kept captive by Moody for 18 months.
