Williams originally had Houston as his college football destination, but he ultimately chose the University of Wyoming over Baylor, Oklahoma State, and TCU.
Williams had a limited amount of playing time as a freshman. In the Arizona Bowl, where he started for the first time in his career, he defeated Georgia State 38–17 while tossing three touchdown passes and scoring on the ground.
Williams played in every game of the following season’s six-game compressed schedule, scoring six touchdowns on the ground while passing for just one score and throwing three interceptions.
Williams participated in eight games the season after. Williams was selected to start at quarterback for San Jose State after the team’s three-game losing streak.
Despite two touchdowns and two interceptions from Williams, Wyoming lost 21–27. He had 8 throwing touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and 1 running score towards the end of the season.
Williams defeated Kent State 52-38 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl after throwing for 127 yards and one touchdown and rushing for 200 yards and four scores.
Williams was chosen as the game’s MVP following his effort. One day after the game, on December 22, 2021, Williams made the choice to transfer public. Williams made his decision to move to Utah State Public on December 30, 2021.
