Karine Jean-Pierre comes from a family of Haitian descent but she was brought up in Queens Village in New York City. Her mother worked as a home health aide, and her father was a taxi driver. She has two younger siblings.

She is a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology and received her MPA from the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University (SIPA) in 2003, where she served in student government and decided to pursue politics.

Since January 2021, the 48-year-old has been the White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary in the Biden-Harris Administration. Karine Jean-Pierre is the first black person and the first openly LGBTQ person to be the White House, press secretary.
