She developed a passion for journalism at a younger age, has been consistent throughout her career, and has risen through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after sports journalists.
Hill began her career as a general assignment sports writer for the Raleigh News & Observer and later worked for the Detroit Free Press and also the Orlando Sentinel.
While with the Detroit Free Press, she served as a sports writer mainly covering Michigan State football and basketball. She also covered the 2004 Summer Olympics and the NBA playoffs.
Hill joined ESPN in November 2006 as a national columnist and later worked in various roles until 2013, when she succeeded Jalen Rose as host of ESPN2’s Numbers Never Lie.
At ESPN, she made regular appearances on television, including SportsCenter and several ESPN programs, such as ESPN First Take, Outside the Lines, and The Sports Reporters.
After succeeding Jalen Rose as host of “Numbers Never Lie”, the show was rebranded to “His & Hers” which she co-hosted with Michael Smith.

In 2018, Hill left her role as co-host of SC6 and joined the ESPN website, The Undefeated. Shortly afterward, she left ESPN to work as a contributing writer for The Atlantic
Hill later became a co-host of Vice’s Cari & Jemele (Won’t) Stick to Sports alongside Cari Champion from August 2020 to February 2021.
Hill is the co-founder of the film and production company Lodge Freeway Media and published her autobiography Uphill: A Memoir in 2022.
In February 2022, she was cast in the documentary series Everything’s Gonna Be All White, airing on Showtime.
In July 2023, she made hit the headlines following comments on the Supreme Court ruling that, using race as a factor in college admissions violated the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause.
