Gordon Smart was born on 31 March 1980 in Edinburgh, and raised in Kinross is a Scottish broadcaster, former journalist, and editor of The Scottish Sun. Gordon Smart’s career in journalism began in D.C. Thomson in Dundee in June 1998 where he was hired as a junior reporter at the Evening Telegraph and Dundee Courier. He studied journalism at Napier University in Edinburgh.
Gordon Smart worked as a football coach for the Dutch company Coerver from 2001 to 2002. He returned to Scotland after being injured twice in football, where he worked for the Deadline Press and he worked for the Picture Agency, covering news in East Scotland. He was introduced to Victoria Newton at the 2003 MTV Europe Music Awards in Edinburgh. At the time, she was the editor of The Sun’s Odd Showbiz column. Newton gave him a shift at The Sun newspaper in London, and later got a 3-month contract with The News of the World.
Gordon Smart joined The Sun’s Bizarre in 2004 as a stand-in for Victoria Newton. He was then promoted to performing arts director in November 2001 and became column editor.
