Dev Griffin Biography
Born on 23 December 1984, he gained fame for hosting Heart’s evening show since January 2022 and Heart’s Feel Good Weekend since January 2021. Additionally, he had notable weekend afternoon shows on BBC Radio 1.
Griffin’s radio journey began in 2000 when he was just 16 years old, working on the pirate radio station Freek FM. He specialized in garage and jungle music and went by the name DJ Devstar. In 2003, he left Smile to focus on his radio career.
Aside from radio, Griffin has ventured into acting. In 2006, he created and starred in the children’s sitcom The Crust. He also made appearances as himself in Friday Download: The Movie after campaigning extensively on-air to secure a role in a B movie.
As a DJ, Griffin was part of the Rebellious music collective and performed at various venues in Ayia Napa and Faliraki. He had the opportunity to open for notable artists such as Kanye West at the Hammersmith Apollo and Jurassic 5 at the London Astoria. He also showcased his skills at the Radio 1 Teen Awards.
Dev Griffin joined BBC Radio 1Xtra and this happened in August 2002. Later on, he took over the weekday early breakfast show, replacing Greg James, before returning to the weekend breakfast show in March 2014. Griffin also served as a relief presenter for The Radio 1 Breakfast Show, the Scott Mills show, and the Greg James show.
In 2018, Griffin teamed up with Alice Levine to host their own show, Dev & Alice, in the weekend breakfast slot. They eventually moved to the weekend afternoon show. However, in August 2020, the show concluded following Levine’s departure from Radio 1.
In November 2020, BBC Radio 1 announced major scheduling changes for 2021, and Griffin, along with Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart, did not return to the lineup. Instead, Griffin left the BBC and joined Heart after an 18-year tenure with the corporation. He started his Heart journey on 2 January 2021, hosting a brand new show from 12:00 to 16:00.
As of January 2022, Griffin was known as the host of the Heart’s Evening Show and this is a show that starts at 7 pm and ends at 10 pm, every Monday to Thursday, and he took over from Mark Wright, who moved back to weekends.
Dev Griffin has also made appearances on television. In 2016, he and Alice Levine participated in a BBC Bargain Hunt Children in Need special. He reached the final of the 2017 series of Celebrity Masterchef and competed in the 17th series of Strictly Come Dancing, partnered with professional dancer Dianne Buswell. Additionally, in October 2020, Griffin participated in a celebrity edition of The Chase.
