Mrs. Dorcas Affo Toffey won the Jomoro constituency parliamentary seat in the just ended 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary General Elections on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress but will suffer a big setback after a resident in the constituency sued her for having Ivorian and American citizenship.

The resident challenged the legitimacy of the member of parliament in court of which the court also granted his wishes by ordering her to appear before the court to answer some questions about her nationality.

In the first court proceedings at the Tarkwa High Court, lawyers of the member of parliament debunked the allegations that Mrs. Dorcas Affo Toffey ever holds American citizenship. In the case of Ivorian citizenship, the lawyers stated that she denounced that citizenship before contesting for the parliamentary seat.

After several months of court hearing, the High Court has ordered the mother of the former RuffTown Records signee to provide the proof of when she denounced her Ivorian citizenship in the next 10 working days or might face the wrath of the law.

Checks indicate it’s against the laws of Ghana to hold another country’s citizenship whiles running for a political office and if found guilty might face about 4 years in prison.
