Atiku Abubakar Bio, Parents, Wife, Children, Siblings: Atiku Abubakar is a Nigerian politician and businessman born on November 25, 1946, in Jada, Nigeria.

His political career started in the early 1980s when he worked behind the scenes on the governorship campaign of Bamanga Tukur where he canvassed for votes and also made donations to the campaign.

Later along the line, Atiku Abubakar joined mainstream politics and ran as governor of Adamawa State in 1990, 1996 and but was later elected in 1998.

After winning the 1998 election, he became Olusegun Obasanjo’s running mate in the 1999 presidential election and was re-elected in 2003. Atiku served as the vice president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007.

In the 2007 presidential election, Atiku was the presidential candidate for the Action Congress but placed third to Umaru Yar’Adua of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Muhammadu Buhari of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Prior to the 2011 presidential election, Atiku contested the presidential primaries of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to the incumbent President and candidate, Goodluck Jonathan.

In 2014, he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2015 presidential election and contested the presidential primaries losing to Muhammadu Buhari.

In 2017, he returned to the Peoples Democratic Party and was the party’s presidential candidate during the 2019 presidential election, again losing to the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari.

In May 2022, he defeated Nyesom Wike, the current Governor of Rivers State in the primaries hence becoming the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 general election.

The 2023 Nigerian general election will be held on Saturday, 25 February 2023.

Atiku Abubakar was born in Jada, Nigeria to Garba Abubakar (father) and Aisha Kande (mother).

His father was a Fulani trader and farmer (he died in 1957 by drowning while crossing a river to Toungo, a neighboring village to Jada).

Atiku was named after his paternal grandfather Atiku Abdulqadir who hails from Wurno, Sokoto State. Not much is known about his mother.

Atiku Abubakar is said to have had four wives; Fatima Abubakar, Princess Ruqayyat, Amina Titi Atiku Abubakar, and Jamila Atiku-Abubakar.

Atiku explains: “I wanted to expand the Abubakar family. I felt extremely lonely as a child. I had no brother and no sister. I did not want my children to be as lonely as I was. This is why I married more than one wife. My wives are my sisters, my friends, and my advisers and they complement one another.”
