Born on 5 August 1991, Weimann began his career at FC Stadlau in Vienna before moving to Rapid Wien at the age of thirteen. Subsequently, he joined Aston Villa as a sixteen-year-old from Rapid Vienna, where he made 129 appearances and scored 24 goals. After leaving Aston Villa in 2015, he played for Derby County and had a loan spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017. He joined Bristol City in July 2018.
In terms of international play, Weimann made his senior debut for Austria in 2012 and accumulated over 20 caps. After a seven-year absence, he was recalled to the national team in 2022.
